Thursday night screenings raked in an estimated $4.96 million alone. The film is now projected to net $59.4 million over the course of its opening weekend, according to Deadline. Original projections had "Straight Outta Compton" doing $18-19 million on opening day and $40-50 million its opening weekend. It's not surprising that the film is killing it in the box office, as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, & N.W.A. have the power to resonate with hip hop enthusiasts young and old.
