Review: King Los' "God, Money, War"
Does King Los win the Game of Thrones that's taking place in hip-hop in 2015?
We're noticing a pattern here.
2015 has reaped handfuls of fantastic album releases from artists major and minor, that are equal parts dense and relisten-able. It seems that with each studio release from a rapper with radioplay, conscientious hip-hop is becoming accessible again. While King Los may not be the most household name in the industry, his alliances with more "pop-hoppy" acts like Kid Ink, and his being groomed by Diddy, make his studio debut-- God, Money, War -- another implication of this emerging trend in hip-hop; conscious music being cool again; and what's more-- you don't have to hang your hat on it.
Don't get me wrong, some of my favorite rappers of all time have made lucrative careers out of allowing the bulk of their library be music of and for the people (Common comes to mind), but that was then, and this is now. In an age where the banger is in high demand, a record that is entirely awesome otherwise may be forgotten if they're void of one. Yet, with the influx of tragic headlines that directly affect the hip-hop community and the lives (or former lives) of the emcees who are a part of it, if an artist tries to get away without a real swing at achieving some gravitas on their album it comes off as wildly inauthentic.
King Los does that in spades on God, Money, War. Maybe that's unsurprising, given his poetry roots growing up in Baltimore, and being under the thumb of the Bad Boy Records brain trust, maybe it should have been expected that Los would be worthy of being considered royalty. Since 2005, King Los has been under the tutelage of Diddy, who has developed more one-hit wonders in this phase in his career than hip-hop giants. GMW does a lot in supporting the idea that, perhaps, Los is the perfect emcee to be filtered through the Diddy machine. Mogul Sean Combs serves as the executive producer here, and you can bet that he had something to do with infusing the party vibes on tracks like "Can’t Fade Us.” Still, it’s Los’ job to take the ball and run with it-- and he does, providing fire like “I slide off with a brunette, wake up with a few blondes/My hoes do Louboutins, your hoes do futons” on “Can’t Fade Us,” and knock out blows and dizzying flows on “Slave.”
Not as young of a gun as authors of other articulate efforts this year like A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar, King Los’ life experience and fatherhood prove to be an asset, as it provides a full spectrum of color that GMW is vibrantly comprised of. It makes Los capable and credible when he provides a song like "Black Blood," successfully manifesting a song heartbreaking in content ("They killed my pop when I was just sixteen/They took my innocence away from me/In my hood I done did some crazy things/But that's all the shit that made me a king") that I still feel compelled to listen to on loop. Then, to follow up this track with the R. Kelly-assisted bonafide radio-bound hit, that is so poppin' you can practically taste the champagne-- King Los is flaunting his crown.
The somewhat eponymous closing track “King” opens with a sampled monologue that asks you “are you ready, can you dig it?” right before King Los digs his feet in the ground and challenges the game, confronts being considered an ‘underrated’ emcee, and drops his best bars ("I’m twice as nice as Bible recitals, minus the title/The Eifel tower, your idol, the highest title, the vital/Not to mention, the chosen, flow so cold, these scriptures is cryogenically frozen"). If his current place on top of the charts in sales is any indication, we most certainly can dig it. After brewing for years in featuring roles (most popularly on the Bad Boy showcase “Ocho Cinco” that charted upon its initial release) and countless mixtapes between 2008 and 2014, King Los’ God, Money, War is not only another chapter in the renaissance of hip-hop that’s taking place this year, but (hopefully) a big step forward for Los career-wise. It's his debut release via RCA, although not his proper debut album, which will follow. Nonetheless, it's release will hopefully see Los rise up from the sort of hip-hop purgatory he's been sitting in for years now-- but we can't be too sure. The album, although possibly an aim for the charts is dense; dense with bars and dense with production. While there are many aspects to enjoy in its density, will it actually widen Los' fanbase? It could be similar to the case with Young Thug's Barter 6: there is not a lot here to drive in new fans, rather, a great album for all the fans that have been sticking around.

Dej Loaf Reportedly Fought Two Former Managers At BET Awards Soundcheck
Dej Loaf reportedly brawled with two former managers during her BET Awards soundcheck
Dej Loaf got into a fight with two of her former managers during her soundcheck before the BET Awards, reports TMZ.
Dej reportedly let the unidentified managers go last week. They showed up to her rehearsal at Nokia Theatre on Saturday, possibly trying to smooth things over and win her back. They were unconvincing as they ended up in a physical altercation with Dej, her brother, and her new manager. One of the former managers ended up in the ER to get stitches for a cut on his forehead.
Dej has yet to comment on the matter, proceeding as if all is good. "'You're so beautiful' -everyone today," she tweeted Saturday night
Bad Boys Reunite To Perform At The BET Awards
Diddy got the old Bad Boy squad together for a BET Awards performance.
One of the undisputed highlights of Sunday night's BET Awards was Diddy getting the old Bad Boy roster together for an 11-minute performance. Puff and Ma$e got things started with "Feel So Good," then 112 showed up for "Peaches and Cream." Diddy then kicked it up a notch with “I Need a Girl Part Two" before Faith Evans arrived looking fine as ever to bring the house down with "Love Like This."
But they weren't done yet. French Montana randomly showed up and nearly cratered the whole thing with a brief "Hot Nigga" interlude before Jadakiss and Sheek Louch got it back on track by coming out for “All About the Benjamins."
The show reached its pinnacle as Lil Kim shot up like a rocket out of the ground, literally, and shut the venue down with her "Benjamins" verse on top of the "Queen Bitch" beat.
Mase and Diddy wrapped things up with "Mo Money Mo Problems” before Diddy brought Pharrell to debut his new single "Finna Get Loose."
All in all an incredible performance, the best part was definitely Diddy tripping and falling into the crowd

Cops Rolled Up On A Plies Video Shoot Thinking It Was A Hostage Situation
The many guns in Plies' new video caused a misunderstanding with police.
Florida police approached what they were told was a hostage situation this weekend, but it turned out to be nothing more than a Plies video shoot. Someone apparently called 911 after they saw Plies and another guy pointing guns at a third man, which they described as two black males holding a white man hostage.
When the cops arrived, it was pretty clear what was actually going on, and while they discovered the weapons were unloaded, they advised against leaving a pile of artillery out in the open.
The firearms were being used in a scene where Plies was meant to be picking up guns from Haitian gangsters.
Kanye West Says He Recorded New Songs With Justin Vernon
Kanye West says he cut some tracks with Justin Vernon.
While facing the haters at Glastonbury Saturday night, Kanye West brought out Justin Vernon of Bon Iver to croon on "Lost in the World" off MBDTF and "Hold My Liquor" off Yeezus, both of which he appeared on the studio version. Kanye revealed that he's been back in the studio with Vernon before queuing up "No Church In The Wild."
“We did some more joints together,” he said.
After a British comedian rushed the stage as he performed "Black Skinhead," Kanye covered Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and headed off stage briefly onto to return on a shining crane flying over the crowd. From his roost he performed "Touch The Sky" and "Good Life.
Members Of N.W.A. Reunited To Perform At BET Experience
Ice Cube, MC Ren, and DJ Yella reunited on stage at the BET Experience.
Last night's BET Experience event was something special, as it served as the first time Ice Cube, MC Ren, and DJ Yella had performed together since 1989. While Dr Dre unfortunately didn't make it out, the three former N.W.A. members still ripped through classic tracks, "Fuck The Police" and "Chin Check".
Yet another west coast legend, Snoop Dogg, helped them out on the latter, while "Police" featured visuals of the McKinney pool incident, as well as other recorded instances of police brutality.
Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock also performed as Black Hippy the same night.
Iggy Azalea's Ex-Boyfriend Hefe Wine Claims She Gave Him An STD
Iggy Azalea's ex-boyfriend Hefe Wine claims she gave him an STD, wants money for subsequent "mental anguish."
Iggy Azalea's ex-boyfriend/rapper Hefe Wine refuses to go away. According to court papers obtained by Daily Mail, Hefe claims Iggy gave him an STD and is seeking payment for subsequent medical bills and "mental anguish."
Hefe Wine continues to establish himself as one of the most prolific gold diggers of the new millenium, having previously stolen Iggy's laptop and attempting to pass off her music as his own and attempted to extort her by threatening to release a sex tape. Iggy actually addressed his STD threat back in 2014 (see below).
Hefe released the following statement to XXL:
“Let me see how I can start this. I had a contract on her, I have a contract on her and in spite of her going to sign with a different label, in spite of her lying that she’s not signed [to me], I took the high road. Even though contractually I could have just stopped it from the very beginning. I said, I’m just going to take the song I wrote and produced, the songs that I can lawfully put out, and put it out. When I did that and they got wind of it—it’s actually in iTunes and Warner Music put it out—they attacked it. Like, “Hey, you can’t put this out.” That’s when all of the smoke hit the fan.”

Inspectah Deck Lost An Entire Album When RZA's Apartment Flooded
Inspectah Deck made two completely different versions of "Uncontrolled Substance."
Inspectah Deck might be the unluckiest dude in the rap game.
In a new interview with VladTV, Deck told the story of how his debut solo album Uncontrolled Substance got completely wiped out by a flood in RZA's apartment.
"My first album wasn’t even the album that y’all hear as Uncontrolled Substance. It was a totally different album," he said. "But the flood came. Back then we was doing beats on the ASR floppy disks and things like that. Floppy disks got soaked. Everything got lost, man. I tried to salvage it. I took it to a computer place. Nothing could happen. So, I lost that first album and had to start all over again.”
Inspectah Deck originally signed to Loud Records in 1995. Uncontrolled Substance was originally delayed when BMG dropped Loud Records, well before the flood hit. The album didn't end up dropping until 1999.
Tyga & Crew Fight With Club Owner Following Short Performance
Tyga enrages a club owner after he shows up late and performs for just ten minutes.
Tyga surprised fans with the release of his Gold Album exclusively through Spotify-- there's no iTunes available as of yet and no physical copies either. It's definitely a different way of doing things. The rapper, who expressed frustrations with his label in the past, still links up with Lil Wayne on the LP, but says on twitter that the album is "all independent."
T-Raww jetted off overseas on the same day his album dropped (Tuesday), joining Kylie Jenner in Cannes, Paris. While in Europe, Tyga scheduled a performance at a club in Geneva, Switzerland, but all did not go as planned. TMZ reports that Tyga and his crew got into a fight with the Envogue Genève club owner because of his late appearance and shortened set. Tyga was apparently scheduled to perform for an hour, but after showing up extremely late he only performed for ten minutes before dipping with Kylie.
Video footage shows Tyga sitting in his car (this was apparently around 4 AM) while the club owner argues with Tyga's entourage. Thing escalate as we then see the club owner attempt to throw fists, which is when Tyga exited the car. An eyewitness alleges that someone flashed a gun, which was enough to incite Tyga to retreat quickly.

Rae Sremmurd's Tour Rider Includes Stripper Poles, Taco Bell, Super Soakers & A Lot Of Alcohol
So this is what fuels a Rae Sremmurd show.
Not just anyone can live the SremmLife, but if you'd like to attempt to have as much fun as Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy, there are a few key ingredients. TMZ managed to get a hold of the Sremm bros' tour rider, and while you couldn't possibly predict everything that's on the list, it shouldn't exactly come as a surprise.
The brothers are said to request chicken wings, Taco bell, multiple bottles of pricey alcohol (though they look and act pretty youthful, they're both of legal drinking age), as well as super soakers, beach balls, and plenty of ones for stage use.
Still, their most absurd request is probably the van that picks them up from the airport, which must have room for 15, plenty more alcohol inside, and to kick things up a notch-- a stripper pole!
If you didn't catch all that, here's a breakdown of what Rae Sremmurd are consuming on a regular basis:
- 2 dozen chicken wings
- 2 Spicy Crunch Dorito Tacos from Taco Bell
- 2 bottles of Ace of Spades Champagne
- 2 bottles of Moet Chandon Champagne
- 1 bottle of Hennessy
- Small Super Soakers
- Beach Balls
- $300 in single dollar bills
- 15 passenger van equipped with stripper pole for airport transfer
Are you built for the SremmLife?
Bobby Shmurda & Rowdy Rebel Trial Date Set
Bobby Shmurda's trial gets a start date.
Bobby Shmurda has been appropriately quiet on the new music front since his lock-up. Being a relatively new rapper at the time he was pinched, it's understandable that he doesn't have hoards of unreleased music in the stash a la Gucci Mane. News on Shmurda's case has slowed down, although the other week his lawyer spoke out, claiming that the police were trying to make an "example" out of the New York native.
Shmurda and his rapping affiliate Rowdy Rebel appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court today (their first time since April), where a judge set their trail date for October 5th 2015. Shmurda and Rebel will be tried alongside four other defendants, four other defendants on charges dating back to their December arrest.
While in court today the prosecution recommended seven years behind bars for Rowdy Rebel, aka Chad Marshall, and eight years for Shmurda. Kenneth Montgomery, Shmurda's lawyer responded to the recommendation, "I’m surprised by the recommendation," he said, "Especially as they’ve been dragging these kids up here like they’re Public Enemy No. 1."
Rowdy's lawyer, Javier Solano, told XXL that he thought the recommendation was "reasonable." "Usually they’re heavy-handed," he said.
The trial is still several months away, and could last "up to two months," while Judge James Burke estimates that it won't be wrapped up until Thanksgiving, and could even extend into January of next year.
In the meantime, Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel aren't able to enjoy the fruits of their labor. We'll keep you posted as we near the trial date
Baton Rouge Rapper Young Ready Shot And Killed
R.I.P. Young Ready.
On Tuesday, June 23, reports surfaced that rapper Young Ready was shot and killed in Bogulasa, Louisiana, a small town about 100 miles east of his native Baton Rouge. Young Ready was one of two victims in the shooting, which occurred around 3:30pm. He was 31 years old.
Young Ready, real name Shannen Hudsen, was also known by many as Racked Up Ready. Though he received little exposure outside of Louisiana, Ready's lengthy career had ushered him to local stardom in Baton Rouge. He was the founder and owner of the record label Bow Entertainment.
Ready's death comes about two years after the murder of Lil Snupe, from Jonesboro, Louisiana. Hometown heroes Boosie Badazz and Kevin Gates, now recognized nationwide, have painted Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas as some of the most violent places in the country.
Below we've included some of Young Ready's most popular songs. The above photos were taken from Ready's Instagram account.
Scott Storch Confident Singles By Rick Ross & Chris Brown Will Lift Him Out Of Bankruptcy
Scott Storch has some big singles with Rick Ross and Chris Brown in the works.
Scott Storch was once one of the most sought-after producers in the game, but his downfall is as well-known as his success. Addictions he picked up within the industry are said to have drained the beatmaker of both his $70 million net worth, and his desire to make music, and despite returning to music on Rick Ross' Mastermind in 2014, Storch just recently filed for bankruptcy.
Luckily, Scott has been keeping up his renaissance, telling TMZ he's been in the lab with Rick Ross, Tyga, and Chris Brown, and the songs are hot enough that they should pull him out of debt before the summer's over (he claims Brown's album will be out by then).
According to his filing, Storch only has $100 in cash, so any earnings would help at this point, though he's also said to be rocking a $3,000 watch, something he should maybe consider pawning in the meantime.

YG Announces Sophomore LP Title, Breaks Silence On Shooting
YG speaks for the first time about being shot in the hip earlier this month, as well as announcing the title of his second album.
YG gave us quite a scare a few weeks back when he was reportedly shot three times outside of a recording studio in Studio City, L.A. Today, he's spoken about the incident for the first time in an interview with Billboard.
The rapper revealed that he was not actually shot three times as previously reported (though we're still wrapping our heads around his explanation), and revealed that his sophomore album would be titled Still Krazy. He also played the publication eight new songs from the upcoming effort, which makes hopeful it could arrive later this year.
According to the rapper, he went back to the studio the next night on crutches, but he's now able to walk without them, and is on his way toward a full recovery.
Read an excerpt from the interview below, and read the full piece here.
What happened the night you got shot?
A little incident. I got shot in my hip, but I’m all right.
Who shot you?
I don’t know, and it don’t matter. I got lucky because a main artery is right there, right around the groin. The bullet didn’t go that deep, and it didn’t hit any bones.
Bullet? Reports said you were shot three times.
Nah, I got shot one time. It was three bullet holes because it went in, went out and went back in again.
Did you really not see who shot you? What do you think their motivation was? Was it gang-related?
It was not gang-related at all. It just happened out of the blue. We don’t know who did it, we don’t know why. We don’t know nothing.
How are you feeling now?
I’m good. I left the hospital that night, and the next day I went back to the studio. Nobody wanted me to go. My mama tells me, “What are you talking about ‘going to the studio?’” But you know, I got shit to do -- this shit don’t stop for nobody. I came straight to the studio on my little crutches.
Gucci Mane Does Not Have A Prison Release Date
Gucci Mane is not getting out of prison on July 11 after all.
Gucci Mane's lawyer Drew Findling informed MTV News that, contrary to rumors, the rapper will not be getting out of prison on July 11.
“We do not know where that rumor came from, so that’s just Internet and social media fabrication,” Findling said. “We have no idea where that release date came from because we’re still in the midst of resolving things with the Bureau of Prisons. There was some confusion on their part, about his release date.
“I can’t get into specifics, but we’re in the midst of corresponding with the Bureau of Prisons. I’m trying to iron out a specific release date for him, but that I can tell you that is not his release date. There’s nothing formal about that. It’s a product of social media.
Gucci is officially scheduled to be released on March 6, 2017. He's dropping that new mixtape Trapology on July 1st.
Snoop Dogg Back In The Studio With Dr. Dre
Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre aka the dream team are back in the studio.
Snoop Dogg posted an Instagram picture Wednesday of him and Dr. Dre in the studio, confirming that the rapper-producer duo that made Doggystyle, "Nuthin But A G Thang," and "Still D.R.E." is once again in business.
“Guess who bAcc,” wrote Tha Doggfather, followed by shining stars, a microphone, explosions, a gun, and a stack of cash in emoji form.
Dr. Dre recently got back in the studio with his old protege Slim The Mobster, looks like he's making the rounds with the old riders.
Given the recent release of Snoop's BUSH it's hard to say what they are working on. There are many potential reasons for the reunion. Could be a new Snoop project, could be Detox, could just be them getting together to smoke a blunt.
Regardless, good to see this goon squad back in action. Gz up, hoes down

Lil Wayne Cancels Show After Entourage Refuses To Get Searched
Lil wayne's concert at The Venue in Minneapolis Sunday night was over before it started, as he cancelled the performance when his entourage refused to get searched by security. A pat down and walk through the metal detector is standard procedure at The Venue.
Weezy is currently in the middle of his "Sorry 4 The Wait Tour," and concertgoers were understandably disappointed when they learned he wasn't coming on.
The Venue released a statement regarding the matter. Read it in full and watch the local news report below:
On June 21, 2015, Lil Wayne was scheduled to perform at The Venue, a premier music and entertainment venue located on First Avenue in the heart of the Minneapolis entertainment district. Unfortunately, Lil Wayne elected not to perform after members of his entourage refused to take part in The Venue's standard safety procedures.
In order to ensure the safety of the artists that perform on its stage, its patrons, and its staff members, The Venue has in place many long-standing standard safety procedures. One of these safety procedures is to conduct an exterior pat-down and metal detection on each person entering The Venue, and to confirm each party's age and identity by requesting and reviewing a state-issued ID card. These safety procedures apply to customers and entertainers alike and are similar, if not identical, to safety standards and procedures utilized by clubs and arenas throughout the United States and the Twin Cities. These safety procedures are explained and provided to each performer in advance of any performance or concert that occurs at The Venue.
Last night, The Venue was honored to welcome world-renowned hip-hop star Lil Wayne to perform on its stage.
Upon his arrival, Lil Wayne was permitted entry into The Venue in order to perform. However, several members of his entourage refused to take part in The Venue's standard safety procedures. In accordance with The Venue's long-standing policies, those members that refused to follow The Venue's safety procedures, and only those members, were refused entry into the club. Despite the fact that Lil Wayne was permitted entry, the stage was set up to his specifications, and he otherwise appeared ready to perform, he made the decision that he would not perform as scheduled.
The safety of its patrons, its performers, and its staff members is and continues to be the number one priority for The Venue. Nas Pens Open Letter About Race & War In America
Recently we've seen a few rappers, some political-minded and some not, speak out in the wake of the tragic Charleston shooting. Lupe Fiasco and Killer Mike shared their thoughts and broached the topic of racism. Kanye West did similarly during his freestyle at the Atlanta Birthday Bash event. Late last night Nas got a few things off his chest, and while not directly tied to the events in Charleston, it was likely influenced by it.
Taking to his Instagram page, Nas wrote about race and war in America, and how America has put its focus on wars abroad, neglecting those of their very own cities. He also broadens the discussion from simply Black versus White. Read his full post below.

Young Thug To Release "Slime Season" The Same Day As Lil Wayne's "FWA"
Young Thug opts for a July 4th release of his upcoming mixtape "Slime Season" with London On Da Track.
Yesterday Young Thug took to Instagram to unveil cover art for a new mixtape he has on the way, with production entirely from London On Da Track. The two often cook up fire together, so a full project of collaborations is welcome.
The news about Slime Season followed reports that Thugger was titling his next mixtape Carter V-- taking it upon himself to drop a project of that name since Lil Wayne is not. It appears he changed his mind and went with Slime Season, but we're still seeing a jab at Weezy with Slime Season's release date: July 4th. As just about everyone knows, Lil Wayne announced the fourth of July would be the release date for his anticipated Free Weezy Album, so either Thugger is extremely oblivious to the going-ons of the hip-hop world, or else it's purposeful. Although Thug has openly expressed his love for Wayne in the past, calling the rapper his idol, things took a sour turn when Wayne did not reciprocate Thug's affection.
Wayne doesn't always stick to his proposed release dates either way, so we'll have to see if both these projects actually do drop the same day. Which one are you downloading?
50 Cent Makes Fun Of Diddy's UCLA Arrest
50 Cent mocks Diddy in a series of now-deleted Instagram posts.
50 Cent seizes any and every opportunity to throw some shade in Diddy's direction, thus yesterday, with the news that Diddy was arrested after attacking a UCLA coach, Fif hopped on Instagram to crack some jokes at Puff's expense.
In a few recent interviews 50 has spoken on his dislike for "Puffy Juice," not elaborating further other than saying he's done some things Fif doesn't agree with. However the beef seems pretty light and one-sided (we don't really hear from Diddy on the matter). 50 threw jabs at Puff in a series of Instagram posts which refer to Diddy's arrest. In one video, 50 pretends to talk on the phone saying, "Yeah, man. They say Puffy went Ciroc Coco on the coach with a kettlebell. All this shit started since Drake, man. He be wanting to fuck everybody up. Yeah, man. I’m counting the bail money right now, so I can get him."
In the process of writing this article, the Instagrams were deleted. 50 posted something else on Instagram in their place, which proclaims, "I didn't say nothing about puffy, I ain't build like that. I be scared to death."
Amber Rose Covered Her Wiz Khalifa Tattoo With A Sleeve Of Roses
Amber Rose covered her Wiz Khalifa tattoo with a fresh sleeve of roses.
In the final step of ridding her life of Wiz Khalifa, Amber Rose removed her tattoo of his visage from her left arm, reports TMZ.
TMZ's goons approached Rose recently as she hopped onto a motorized tricycle with her entire upper left arm wrapped in the type of white bandage typically used after a visit to the tattoo parlor. Rose deflected the reporter's questions, but her silence spoke volumes.
A video taken by one of Rose's friends later surfaced that clearly depicted a fresh sleeve of roses tatted where Wiz's face used to be.
Stream Pete Rock's Album "Petestrumentals 2"
Respected producer Pete Rock returns today, after a good fifteen years, to follow up his 2001 instrumental effort Petestrumentals. The producer recalls his '90s heyday with Petestrumentals 2, providing a free stream of the album via Mello Music Group.
The 20-track offering is available in a variety of formats, vinyl, CD, and iTunes. Pick your poison, or simply click play on the Bandcamp stream below. As the press release states, "Petestrumentals 2 conjures memories of BBQ cookouts and 70s Blaxploitation scores, rattling summer jeep cruises and blunted Jamaican vacations. There’s a gorgeous requiem to Dilla (“Dilla Bounce (R.I.P),” where the originator pays tribute to the prodigy. You see the full range of Rock’s gifts on display: the meticulously chopped horns, unquantized drums, and air raid sirens. It contains the emotion of a thousand eulogies."
Troy Ave & Joey Badass Send Subliminal Shots On Twitter
Troy Ave has been the topic of hot conversation on social media these past couple weeks thanks in part to his extremely low record sales and attitude towards it all. On Monday, the BSB leader made his way by the Hot 97 studios where he spent about 40 minutes justifying his album sales and self-proclaiming himself the biggest and best independent artist out today.
Taking such to offense, Joey Badass later jumped on twitter Monday afternoon and decided to put some random facts in the air for the people. Sending a friendly “reminder”, Joey revealed that he sold over 57k copies in his first week and is the true self proclaimed #1 independent hip hop artist in the world all while being only 20 years old

Chief Keef Announces "Bang 3" Release Date
Chief Keef's Instagram may be 95% pictures of him playing paintball, but he took the time today to post the cover art of long-awaited project Bang 3 and announced that he will release it on July 3rd.
The Bang 3 cover art continues hip-hop's storied tradition of poorly photoshopped chains. According to Keef's IG post, the project will be "powered by" Greek billionaire Alki David, who is also producing his next album The Cozart, the release date of which is likely hidden in the futureblunt Keef will smoke on August 23, 2015.
Chief Keef has always been sporadic and unpredictable with his releases, we shall see soon enough if he keeps his word with this one.

ScHoolboy Q Says He's Dropping His Album "After Jay Rock" On Twitter
ScHoolboy Q held a brief Twitter Q&A today, but later deleted it.
ScHoolboy Q has been uncharacteristically quiet since the release of his debut physical album, Oxymoron, last year, surprisingly not even making an appearance on Kendrick Lamar's recent album, To Pimp A Butterfly. The lack of features we've heard from Q may have something to do with his focus on a follow-up LP, which he briefly spoke on in a Twitter Q&A today.
"Da new one I'm wrkin on," ScHoolboy replied to a question about his favorite album he'd made, later revealing that he'd possibly be dropping it "after Jay Rock".
Later on he answered a hater's question ("why ya music so garbage?") with "CuHz I dnt rap like da migos or future and sound like sHcoolboy Q no mAtter what."
Of course, this instantly had people saying he was taking shots at the rappers he mentioned, which he laughed of; "smH lol ppl so stupid braH".
All of the questions he answered were deleted shortly thereafter, but you can take a look a screencap of the tweets in the gallery above.
Think we'll get Q's album later this year?
Empire's Taraji P. Henson Hospitalized
Taraji P. Henson, most recently known for her role as Cookie on Empire, was treated for exhaustion Friday.
Anyone who watches FOX's new show, Empire (and considering how big a hot it is, there should be a lot of you), know that Taraji P. Henson's portrayal of Cookie is the best part of the series. On Friday, Henson was hospitalized, but fans will be happy to hear she's making a quick recovery, with her rep confirming that the reason for the visit is fairly minor.
"Taraji is going to be fine. It was mostly exhaustion," her people told ABC, which means that Season 2 of Empire, which is filming now in Chicago, should still make its September 23rd premiere date.
Henson was already cracking jokes on Instagram as of yesterday, posting a photo of her IV, and captioning with a reference to her character in the show, and stressing that the hospital trip was really just a matter of her "doing too much
Meek Mill Pens Open Letter To His Son In TIME For Father's Day
Meek Mill pens an open letter to his son for father's day.
Father's Day 2015 proved occasion for a rare Meek Mill-TIME Magazine connection, as Meek used the publication as a platform to write an open letter to his 4-year old son. He touched on what being a father means to him in light of never having had a father himself. He expressed fear and love regarding fatherhood, and looks forward to helping his son became a great man. Here are a couple excerpts from the letter:
"With my career and my crazy schedule, sometimes it’s tough to be able to spend the amount of time with him that I want and that he deserves. After spending time away from him, one of my favorite things to do is get on my four wheeler with my little man in tow. Picture us riding around my neighborhood waving at all my neighbors. My son is fearless on his bike. Those are the moments I think about when I’m on the road."
"I never had a strong male figure in my life. I didn’t have that person to teach me things fathers teach their sons because my father was killed when I was young. It was just me, my mom, and my sister, so I had to be the man of the house. When I was younger, I remember being able to speak to my father and then in the blink of an eye, he was gone. My mom played the role of both mom and dad. We had nothing growing up, so my mom worked any job she could find to provide for me and my sister. I love her so much for that. But as much as I appreciated everything my mother did for me, she couldn’t fill the space that a father should hold in a child’s life."
Mary J. Blige Will Be Broadcast As A 40-Foot Hologram This Weekend
Mary J. Blige's Statue of Liberty concert will be broadcast as a 40-foot hologram on Governor's Island.
As if Mary J. Blige's concert underneath the Statue of Liberty this weekend didn't sound cool enough, her performance will now be broadcast as a 40-foot hologram on Governor's Island across the NYC harbor.
Mary J.'s performance is an installment of the Made in America Monument Series. Budweiser is advertising the Governor's Island event as "a night of burgers, beers, giveaway, and live performances from Big Gigantic, T-Pain, and Misterwives." Both events are free and you can apply for tickets here provided that you are 21+. Admission includes round-trip ferry transportation.
Frankly the Governor's Island event sounds infinitely cooler. T-Pain + 40-foot hologram of Mary J. > Statue of Liberty + actual Mary J

Following his performance of “We Be Steady Mobbin”, Weezy went on to announce that his highly anticipated Free Weezy Album will be dropping on July 4th. While details on the album still remain a secret, all signs are pointing that it’s going to be a Tidal exclusive, especially after Wayne just became an artist-owner of the company a couple weeks back and released the track, “Glory,” through it.
The Free Weezy Album will serve as Wayne’s first album since 2013’s I Am Not A Human Being 2.
We’ll continue to update you with info as it becomes available. For now, watch the announcement below.
CeeLo Green Announces New Album "Heart Blanche"
It looks like CeeLo Green has another album on the horizon. Following January's release of TV On The Radio, which saw him singing over popular TV theme songs, the ATL musician will release another new album called Heart Blanche.
According to Billboard, Heart Blanche is in the final stage of being completed and is looking at a fourth quarter release date.
"We're actually in the final stages of completing his album. He's really been hard at work," Atlantic Records CEO/co-chairman Craig Kallman told Billboard. "We've got a big, big list of songs that we've been going through, and we're kind of mixing the final songs now. We're going to be imminently figuring out his marketing plan and single release schedule, and we're looking at the fourth quarter [for release]."
Speaking highly on the project, CeeLo’s manager, Larry Mestel, also said “it's arguably the best piece of work he's ever done." Strong words for a catalogue such as CeeLo Green's. Stay tuned.

Slim The Mobster Back In Studio With Dr. Dre
Slim the Mobster was once a promising protege of Dr. Dre, before the rapper's career was halted by a jail stint. Shortly after the rapper began working on his War Music follow-up, S.O.O.N. (Something Out Of Nothing), he was hauled off to jail on multiple charges.
After spending the last two years behind bars, Slim is once again a free man, and reunited with his former Aftermath labelhead, Dre. The rapper tweeted a photo from their studio session, confirming his prison release.
Take a look at the tweets below, and let us know if you're excited to hear new music from Slim the Mobster.

Wiz Khalifa Gets Off Easy For Last Year's "Jail Selfie" Weed Arrest
Wiz Khalifa will not serve time for his 2014 marijuana possession charge.
Last May, Wiz Khalifa had a run-in with the police that went viral pretty quickly. The reason for the arrest (marijuana possession) was nothing noteworthy for the Kush & OJ rapper, but what it spawned (a selfie taken behind bars) set the internet ablaze and prompted a separate police investigation. Today, the case has been resolved, and Wiz is getting off with a misdemeanor charge and a $500 fine.
TMZ reports that Young Khalifa pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after originally being found with half a gram of marijuana in the El Paso airport. He was jailed overnight, but got out the next day and promptly released his 28 Grams tape (what timing). No charges pertaining to the infamous selfie were made.
Casey Veggies Announces Debut Album Release Date
Casey Veggies reveals that "Live And Grow" will impact in August.
We were unsure if Young Veggies would be going the surprise album route with his forthcoming debut album, Live And Grow, but today he's squashed those thoughts with the announcement of a release date.
Veggies' debut album has been a long time coming, so fans will be happy to hear that the West Coast rapper has finally locked in a date: August 7th 2015.
The rapper didn't share more than that. He's currently pushing his single "Tied Up" which connects him with Detroit spitter DeJ Loaf.
We recently ran down the essential tracks from the Peas & Carrots rapper, peep that here. If you didnt' catch our interview with Veggies you can also watch that below. He discusses a bit on what to expect from Live And Grow, and spit an unreleased verse off the album
Kanye West Slept Through Part Of North West's Birthday Celebration
Kanye West apparently got some heavy eyelids during a "Frozen" sing-along show at Disneyland.
The ambitious birthday celebration for Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's daughter, Nori, certainly seemed a bit exhausting, and Kanye's power nap during a "Frozen" performance that day confirms it.
The couple rented out the Disneyland theme park for Nori's 2nd birthday, and while plenty of photos show the family having a great time, a new picture has surfaced that shows Yeezy getting a bit of shut-eye.
TMZ points out that an actress in the "Frozen" singalong performance at Disneyland noticed Ye wasn't as into the show as the rest of his party, writing on Facebook, “when you perform for the Kardashian family for North’s birthday…and Kanye sleeps through the whole show.”
To be fair, the workaholic rapper was probably in the studio pretty late the night before, and a "Frozen" singalong sounds REALLY boring.
Jhene Aiko Recreates Iconic Tupac Photos
On what would have been his 44th birthday, Jhene Aiko pays tribute to Tupac through photos.
Jhene Aiko was too young to watch Tupac's career unfold, but like many younger people that have grown to admire the late west coast rapper, her obsession came after watching the documentary, Tupac Resurrection.
On what would have been Pac's 44th birthday, Aiko decided to pay tribute to the rapper in a shoot, recreating some of his most iconic photographed moments. Inspired by shots from All Eyez On Me, the rapper's posthumous greatest hits collection, and David LaChapelle's "Becoming Clean" shoot, the singer channeled the spirit of the rapper in three photos for MTV.
Jhene also shared the story of how "Keep Ya Head Up" became her favorite Tupac song, and one that she regularly performs live.
I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter and that song came on. I just cried like never before. His words meant so much to me. I just felt like I needed to hear that. I didn’t know what was going to happen next. I wasn’t in the best position to have a child. I was growing hopeless. At that moment I was leaving a free-clinic-type-of-family-planning-type of place to do my prenatal stuff. I was on the county, I had my E.B.T. card, I had my food stamps. I was in the system and I felt like, “Where was my life going at this point?” It was hard for me to be optimistic. But that song came on and that’s what changed the whole mood of my pregnancy.
From that day when I heard that song, I was like, “You know what? He’s right. I need to just keep my head up and keep it pushing and do what I have to do.” From then on everything turned into a positive experience. It really stuck at that moment, because that was 2007 and the song had been out for years and years and years. Not until I had that full-circle moment of understanding struggle and pain did I relate to the song that much more.
50 Cent Threatens To Sue MediaTakeOut For Leaking La La Anthony Sex Scene From "Power"
50 Cent suggests MediaTakeOut have a lawsuit coming their way.
50 Cent doesn't like to be messed with. Recently, gossip site MediaTakeOut got a hold of a scene from the rapper's Starz TV show, "Power," and seeing that it was a sex scene starring actress La La Anthony, the site decided to post it up early.
Fif isn't very happy about the leak, posting a video today in which he suggests MTO have a lawsuit comingthere way. “Shout out to MediaTakeOut for showing La La some love and showing her scene early,” he said. “For doing that, I’m not gonna take it personal, so don’t take it personal with me when they sue you til you’re blue in the face.”
MTO has since taken the original page down, so perhaps they will be facing some legal consequences.

Killer Mike Asks Fans To Vote For Him In Atlanta Election
Killer Mike is looking to get into Georgia State Legislature.
Listening to Killer Mike talk, or rap, for one minute should be enough to convince you he's a born political leader. While he's always been very vocal about his views, Mike has never attempted to enter politics, but it seems the day has finally come.
Posting on Instagram today, the rapper asked fans in Atlanta to go to the polls and write his given name (Michael Render) on the ballet to replace former state rep Tyrone Brooks.
According to Pigeons and Planes, there are already seven candidates for the position, so it might be tough for Mike to wedge his way in at this point, but then again, he has a considerable influence
Geto Boys Announce New Album "Habeas Corpus"
Geto Boys are reuniting for a newly-announced album.
The last Geto Boys album dates back to 2005's The Foundation, but the crew is set to reunite, and (attempt to) put their differences aside, for a new project: Habeas Corpus.
However, they need some help. Financially. The group has started a Kickstarter page to help raise funds for the album's creation, which has become an increasingly popular method for the nobodies of the world and celebrities alike to raise money for whatever cause they deem fit. TLC did it for their album, as did De La Soul.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Willie D shed light on their differences and was not shy to speak on his true feelings towards their fellow group members. Willie D says of the group's chemisty, "We fuckin' hate each other, man. It's like, 'Motherfucker, I don't even wanna be onstage with you. Can we put up three stages, man? I'll sing my verse, you sing your verse.'"
He continued, laughing, "The Geto Boys, man, we're that family that can't stand each other but love each other. That's us. Family's family, man: 'I can't stand that motherfucker, I wanna kill him.' Yeah man, but you can't do that do your family."
The group is hoping to raise $100,000 by July 15th to fund Habeas Corpus. Their decision to use a Kickstarter campaign was in order to avoid label executives altogether.
Willie D left Rolling Stone with some final words on the forthcoming album: "We've done some shows in the last year or so, so we know what we're doing. We know what the fans wanna hear. We got it pretty tight."
Are you excited for this? Help the Geto Boys reach their goal here. If you have $10,000 laying around, you can get a custom-designed and painted casket, complete with a custom-embroidered pillow autographed and designed by all three members.
